Driving Maritime Decarbonisation at LISW25: The Decarb Hub convenes high-level dialogues on finance, fuels, and skills for a safe, sustainable, and human-centric transition

Throughout London International Shipping Week 2025 (LISW25), the Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub is proud to host and participate in a wide range of high-impact industry events.

Our programme spans finance, fuels, and skills - from strategic roundtables on sustainable finance and coalition-based fuel initiatives, to the launch of new training frameworks for seafarers in alternative fuels.

Highlights include the launch of the Decarb Hub–EDF report on "Innovative Finance for Shipping’s Journey to Net Zero", and the unveiling of the Maritime Just Transition Task Force Training Frameworks, co-developed by the Hub with partners including the UN Global Compact.

The week will also see Hub experts moderating and speaking at forums such as the Maritime London Shipping Risk Forum, Maritime Energy Transition Forum (METF), and Strictly Decarb: Systemic Obstacles and Scalable Solutions for the Existing Fleet. Many sessions are by invitation only, but opportunities are available to register or express interest directly.

EDF-Decarb Hub Lunch Briefing: Innovative Finance for Shipping’s Transition

This lunch briefing will launch a joint Decarb Hub–EDF report on sustainable finance, highlighting how shipping must collaborate with the financial sector to reshape models and risk frameworks in line with net zero goals. The session will feature a presentation of key findings followed by a panel discussion with industry and finance leaders.

Marine Energy Transition Forum 2025 Session Four: “Going big(ger) – financing business and product commercialisation,”

For the first time at LISW25, the METF will spotlight the commercial imperative of proving the business case for shipping’s decarbonisation.

Session Four, “Going big(ger) – financing business and product commercialisation,” will feature Dana Rodriguez, Programme Manager at the Decarb Hub, alongside industry leaders discussing how early transition initiatives are scaling towards commercial reality.

Strictly Decarb: Systemic Obstacles and Scalable Solutions for the Existing Fleet

The session will feature three “Evangelists” – each representing a major decarbonisation lever:

Lever 1: Hardware Upgrades
Technology-based interventions aimed at improving physical system efficiency or retrofitting emissions controls.

Lever 2: Operational Excellence
Improving how the ship is operated, maintained, and navigated through better decision-making, data use, and human behaviour.

Lever 3: Business Model Innovation
Transforming how incentives, contracts, and relationships are structured to prioritize emissions reduction.

Training of seafarers for decarbonisation - launch of Maritime Just Transition Task Force training frameworks

The Maritime Just Transition Task Force, in collaboration with The Decarb Hub, and with the support of Lloyd’s Register and Lloyd’s Register Foundation, will be launching the publication of training frameworks for seafarers on board ships powered by ammonia, methanol, and hydrogen.

This session will explore the latest developments at the IMO, include perspectives from seafarer representatives, highlight best-in-class examples related to the transition toward zero and near-zero emission fuels. The program will feature insights from Maritime Just Transition Task Force partners and leading industry experts working at the forefront of maritime decarbonization.

This session forms part of the LISW2025 Maritime Human Capital Management Forum, organised by Ocean Technologies Group.
